Morning Mooch in Altrincham

Every second in your life is a frame from your own movie
— Me

Having an hour or so to spare this week, I opted to mooch around the market town of Altrincham in the morning. Equipped with my backpack and camera, I strolled along the rain-soaked streets, taking in the lively atmosphere of the early hours. Altrincham had a very trendy and stylish appearance, and I found myself eager to return, especially on a market day. The area exuded a distinct ‘hipster’ vibe, with its quirky coffee shops and bakeries, which brought to mind the funkiness of Amsterdam.

I took advantage of the opportunity to test my recently purchased anamorphic lens. The manual focus feature was both unusual and exhilarating. In a time dominated by ultra-sharp auto-focus capabilities, it was refreshing to feel like I was carefully crafting my desired image. The super-wide view significantly aided in achieving an urban cinematic ambiance. The lens has a premium and solid build quality and is genuinely enjoyable to use. My run-and-gun approach, coupled with the absence of in-lens stabilisation, necessitated that I slowed down and exercised great care with my movements. The lens produced naturally stunning colors, but I tweaked it a little and applied my own Mango Crush LUT to the footage, providing a more cinematic feel.

The soundtrack featured in the video is a simple, laid-back beat that I produced myself, incorporating a healthy dose of vintage noise pops and ambient rain to complement the mood. Please feel free to download the track from the link below.

Have you been to Altrincham? What did you think of the place? Would you like to go now?
